Balcones Distilling Hosts Escarpment Tour in Waco
Balcones Distilling is giving whiskey fans a deeper look behind the curtain with its Escarpment Tour in Waco.
The tour takes place on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Balcones Distilling, located at 225 S 11th St. in Waco, Texas. This is not the standard “walk by a shiny thing, nod politely, then wait for the tasting” kind of tour. This one goes a little deeper.
Guests will be guided by Alex Elrod, Balcones’ Brand Experience Manager, and Charlie McRae, National Brand Ambassador. The experience includes a deeper look at Balcones’ history, production process, and how the distillery makes its whisky in Waco.
The tour steps onto the second-floor distiller’s platform for a close look at Balcones’ four custom copper pot stills, then moves into the blending room where the team works on core whiskies and limited release blends. Guests will also get a chance to taste fresh new make from the stills, which is basically whiskey before it has had time to become emotionally complicated.
From there, the tour heads to the fourth-floor R&D warehouse to talk through maturation and how Balcones shepherds its whisky through the aging process. The experience wraps with a tasting through core single malts and two limited release whiskies.
Each guest will receive a complimentary branded leather notebook, a stainless-steel tour Glencairn cover, and a branded wee Glencairn.
A few practical notes before you go: guests must be willing and able to walk up and down four flights of stairs. Closed-toed shoes and pants are required. So, maybe leave the flip-flops at home unless you enjoy being gently roasted by safety policies.
This event is part of the growing list of Texas whiskey events happening across the state. You can find more Balcones Distilling events, explore other North Texas whiskey events, or check out the full Texas Whiskey Events Calendar to see what else is coming up.
Event details may change, so be sure to confirm the latest information directly with Balcones Distilling before making plans.
And if this calendar helped you find your next whiskey nerd field trip, consider grabbing some Texas Whiskey Geek merch. It helps support this independent website, keeps the calendar ad-free, and lets me keep doing the brave work of telling people where to legally stand near barrels.
