Whiskey Business Returns to the Witte Museum in San Antonio
A whiskey festival inside a museum already sounds like the setup to a very specific kind of good decision.
On Friday, August 21, Whiskey Business returns to the Witte Museum in San Antonio for an evening of whiskey, bourbon, Scotch, local food, live music, DJs, seminars, and after-hours access to select museum experiences.
VIP admission begins at 7 p.m., followed by general admission at 8 p.m. The final pour is scheduled for 10:30 p.m., and the event concludes at 11 p.m.
Whiskey Business describes itself as San Antonio’s premier whiskey tasting event, but the appeal goes beyond walking from table to table collecting pours. The setting, food, educational sessions, and mix of Texas and national whiskey brands give it more personality than the standard hotel-ballroom tasting.
A Whiskey Festival with Room to Explore
The basic festival formula is familiar: grab a tasting glass, scan the room, and begin making a series of increasingly confident decisions.
Whiskey Business adds a few more layers.
Guests can sample bourbons, whiskeys, and select Scotches ranging from Texas-made spirits to internationally recognized brands. Brand ambassadors will be on hand to discuss the bottles, production methods, and flavor profiles, while the event’s Sipping Sessions offer more focused educational presentations.
The official 2026 whiskey and seminar lineups have not yet been announced, so I would not plan the evening around any one specific bottle just yet. The event site currently displays previous-year examples while noting that the 2026 lists are still coming.
That said, past participants have included a broad mix of Texas distilleries, established bourbon producers, Scotch brands, craft releases, and less familiar bottles that may not regularly appear on local shelves.
That variety is one of the better reasons to attend a festival like this. You can revisit familiar favorites, compare styles side by side, and take a chance on something you might never order by the glass.
Food, Music, and a Museum After Dark
Admission includes food and drink samples, with local restaurants providing small bites throughout the evening. Unlimited water and soft drinks will also be available. Bottles are not sold during the festival, so this is strictly a tasting and discovery event rather than an opportunity to leave carrying a suspiciously heavy tote bag.
Live music and multiple DJ stages will run during the event, and attendees will have access to select areas of the Witte Museum.
The Witte focuses on Texas nature, science, culture, and regional history, which makes it a much more interesting venue than a generic convention space. The museum is located in Brackenridge Park and includes galleries dedicated to Texas wildlife, dinosaurs, South Texas heritage, and the history of the state.
It is entirely possible to spend part of the evening comparing bourbons and another part standing near a dinosaur.
Whiskey education takes many forms.
VIP or General Admission?
General admission begins at 8 p.m. and includes whiskey and food samples, access to Sipping Sessions, live entertainment, and the vendor market.
Current advance-sale general admission tickets are $85 before fees.
VIP admission begins one hour earlier at 7 p.m. and adds complimentary valet parking, access to an exclusive rare-sampling table, entry to the VIP lounge, and a commemorative Whiskey Business rocks glass.
Current advance-sale VIP tickets are $155 before fees. The earlier discounted VIP tier has already sold out, while advance VIP tickets were still available when this article was prepared.
Tickets are sold online in advance only. The organizer states that tickets will not be sold at the door, all sales are final, and the event will proceed rain or shine. Whiskey Business is strictly 21 and older, with no exceptions.
A Festival That Supports the Witte
Whiskey Business is also a charitable event benefiting the Witte Museum.
That gives the evening a purpose beyond sampling rare pours and pretending you absolutely detected the precise type of orchard fruit in that single malt.
Your ticket supports a San Antonio institution dedicated to sharing the natural, scientific, and cultural history of Texas.
