Dowling Distilling Releases 152 5-Grain Anniversary Spirit
Dowling Distilling is celebrating a little Van Alstyne history with an all-day whiskey release, burgers, live music and a late-night speakeasy.
On Saturday, October 10, the distillery will release 152, a small-batch five-grain specialty spirit distilled and aged from grain harvested during Van Alstyne's 152nd anniversary.
The grain bill is an unusual one: corn, wheat, malted barley, quinoa and oats.
Yes, quinoa.
Your whiskey has apparently been to Whole Foods.
The 152 Anniversary Release
The day starts from 11 a.m.–5 p.m. with the inaugural release of Dowling Distilling's 152.
The five-grain recipe combines familiar whiskey grains like corn, wheat and malted barley with oats and the considerably less common addition of quinoa.
More importantly, Dowling says the spirit was distilled and aged from the harvest of Van Alstyne's 152nd anniversary, tying the release directly to the community surrounding the distillery.
Bottle price, proof, age and the number of bottles available weren't included in the event announcement, so if 152 is the reason you're making the trip, getting there earlier in the day probably isn't a terrible idea.
Smash Burgers and Live Music
From 5–8 p.m., Funky's Smash'D Burger will take over with a burger pop-up alongside live music from the Outlaw Ranch Band Duo.
The pop-up will offer four different smash burgers and four fry options, including an Adult Bison Burger, along with happy hour at the distillery.
Whiskey release. Bison burger. Live music.
Texas continues to make a strong argument against staying home.
Speakeasy + Live Jazz
Then things change gears from 8–11 p.m. with a speakeasy and live jazz.
Dowling will be serving craft cocktails made with a variety of spirits distilled in-house, and a photographer will be on hand for the evening.
Guests are encouraged to lean into the theme and show up in Prohibition-era attire.
Or don't. I'm reasonably confident they will still sell you a cocktail.
