Links & Drinks 26 Brings Texas Whiskey to the Golf Course
Somebody at the Texas Whiskey Festival got access to an entire golf course for a day.
They could have had a company outing.
Instead, they invited the Texas whiskey community.
This was clearly the correct decision.
On Thursday, October 8, the Texas Whiskey Festival is taking over Harvey Penick Golf Campus in Austin for Links & Drinks 26, a day combining an approachable round of golf with Texas whiskey tastings, distillers, prizes and enough friendly competition to make everyone suddenly care about a three-foot putt.
And no, you don't have to be particularly good at golf.
Golf Without Taking Golf Too Seriously
Links & Drinks is set up as a two-person scramble, which means both players hit, pick the better shot and continue from there.
Translation: when your drive disappears somewhere into Travis County, your partner may be able to save you.
There are two sessions available, with shotgun starts at 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The field is limited to 36 two-person teams across both sessions, so this isn't a massive golf tournament. It's designed to be approachable for experienced golfers, occasional golfers and whiskey people who happen to own golf clubs.
Registration includes golf, a cart, player swag, Texas whiskey tastings and access to participating Texas distilleries, along with prizes and awards.
And Yes, There's Texas Whiskey
Before and after your round, participating Texas distilleries will be pouring samples and hanging out with players.
That's really what separates Links & Drinks from your normal golf tournament.
Instead of finishing your round and discussing why your short game betrayed you, you can finish your round and discuss whiskey with some of the people actually making it.
Much healthier.
Food trucks will also be on-site with food available for purchase.
Supporting First Tee – Greater Austin
Links & Drinks will also include optional fundraising activities and opportunities to donate to First Tee – Greater Austin, an organization that uses golf to help young people develop character, confidence and life skills.
So even if your scorecard becomes something you'd prefer to destroy before anyone sees it, you can still accomplish something productive.
