6th Street Spirits Texas Oak Double Barrel Release | Giddings, Texas
Texas Independence Day is turning into a statewide bottle-drop holiday, and Giddings is joining the celebration.
On Saturday, February 28, 2026, 6th Street Spirits will release a special distillery-only Texas Oak Double Barrel Bourbon at their distillery in Giddings. This limited release takes their Double Oak Bourbon and finishes it in a second barrel made from 100% Texas oak — keeping the entire aging influence rooted in the state.
That’s a detail Texas whiskey fans tend to appreciate.
While many bourbons rely on traditional American white oak from broader cooperage sources, using fully Texas-sourced oak adds another regional layer to the whiskey’s character. Climate already shapes Texas maturation heavily — now the wood origin is doing the same.
This is a classic “show up at the distillery” release rather than a formal ticketed event. Expect a relaxed environment, a chance to talk whiskey with the folks who made it, and a bottle you probably won’t see distributed elsewhere.
Why This One Is Interesting
Double-barrel bourbons are usually about refining balance — sweetness from the first barrel, structure from the second. In this case, the second barrel isn’t just a finishing tool… it’s part of the identity.
A fully Texas oak finishing barrel pushes the regional concept further than most releases attempt. Same mash, same distillery, but the wood itself becomes part of the terroir.
For collectors, that makes it unique.
For drinkers, it makes for a fun side-by-side comparison if you’ve had their standard Double Oak.
