And some are full-blown food competitions fueled by cocktails and friendly trash talk.
On Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 1:00–7:00 PM, Fire Oak Distillery hosts the 3rd Annual Gumbo Cook-Off, inviting cooks, spectators, and anyone who just enjoys a good roux to spend the afternoon hanging out at the distillery.
Last year built a reputation — now the returning champions are back to defend their titles:
Mardi Gras Mamas — Kim Hoover & Friends
Kevin & Heather — Heather & Kevin Frank
House Divided Duel Threat — Danny Faust & Family
So yes… expectations are high.
What to Expect
This isn’t a sit-down tasting — it’s a laid-back festival atmosphere where you can walk around, sample entries, vote, and keep a cocktail in hand.
You’ll find:
Competitive gumbo teams battling for bragging rights
Live music from Jim Monk
Distillery cocktails
Community hangout vibes
Whether you’re competing or just showing up hungry, the event is designed for participation. Spectators actually matter — because somebody has to decide who wins.
