Leopold Bros. Masterclass & Dinner Comes to Whiskey Crusaders
There are whiskey classes, and then there are whiskey classes where somebody starts talking about a nearly forgotten pre-Prohibition still design.
Those are usually the good ones.
On Friday, October 2, Whiskey Crusaders Whiskey Castle in Hurst is hosting a Leopold Bros. Masterclass & Dinner with founder Todd Leopold.
The evening starts at 7 p.m. and will dig into the history and production behind Leopold Bros., including its Three Chamber Still and the style of rye whiskey that this unusual piece of equipment was built to produce.
Let's Get Nerdy About Still Design
The Three Chamber Still is a big part of what makes this event interesting.
Todd Leopold will walk guests through the history behind the still, a design once used to make the heavier-bodied rye whiskeys of the pre-Prohibition era, and how bringing that production method back affects the flavor and texture of the whiskey being made today.
More importantly, this isn't purely theoretical.
The tasting lineup includes:
9-Year Three Chamber Rye
5-Year Maryland-Style Rye
8-Year Bourbon finished in a Three Chamber Rye barrel
Leopold Bros. Small Batch or Navy Strength Gin
The evening also starts with a Cherry Manhattan made with Leopold Maryland-Style Rye, tart cherry liqueur and Bittercube Cherry Bark Vanilla.
Basically, you're going to learn things.
There will also be whiskey.
Education continues to improve.
Dinner Is Included
This is a full Masterclass & Dinner rather than just a guided tasting.
Dinner will be catered by Ti Amo, giving everyone something substantial to eat while Todd Leopold leads the group through the history, production methods and spirits of Leopold Bros.
